The concert opens with the irresistible sway of Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2 (trans. Oliver Nickel), a modern classic bursting with passion, elegance, and infectious energy. This is followed by the rich colours and driving rhythms of Alfred Reed’s Armenian Dances, Part II, drawing deeply from folk traditions to create music that is both heartfelt and exhilarating.

A highlight of the afternoon is the celebration of Singaporean creativity, featuring works by two local composers. Joseph Lim’s Wu offers a compelling musical interpretation of movement and spirit, while Peter Gale’s Malay Dances brings the vibrancy and rhythmic vitality of regional dance traditions to the wind symphony stage.

The programme culminates in the iconic Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein (trans. Paul Lavender), where jazz, Latin rhythms, and symphonic brilliance collide in one of the most thrilling works ever written for the concert stage.
